MOORLANDS COLLECTION II

The ideas for this series of paintings came from car and train journeys around the UK, particularly across the moorlands of Yorkshire, Cumbria and Cornwall.

Because the views are fleeting the memory of it becomes an amalgamation of different places and times and this is what I try to capture in my paintings. While they are not representations of specific places I hope they capture a sense of place in a more general way.  A sense of the space, light and scale of these wild places.  Light breaking through cloud, the sweep and curve of hills, the contrasting textures of bracken, grass rocks and trees.

I work in oil paint building up layers with expressive energetic brushstrokes.  It is a process of constant re-evaluation and change, working towards a finished painting that hopefully captures a moment in time and reflects my emotional connection with the natural world.

If interested in any of the above paintings, please use my contact page to get in touch.
